Sometimes when we read the Bible, we hear things that aren't there. You learn a lot from interacting with other people. That's the whole reason teachers use personal anecdotes: because if you can find a way that a lesson has impacted someone in a tangible way, then it becomes easier to translate yourself for them and take the lesson as your own. That's what Paul does here at the opening of this ninth chapter of Romans, the third part in our series exploring the Sovereignty of God. Moving through history, Paul pulls out three examples of God's sovereignty in the lives of the forerunners of our faith - Isaac and Ishmael, Jacob and Esau, and Pharaoh and Moses - and how they demonstrate what the Sovereignty of God looks like when push comes to shove. Preached at Trinity, Grenfell on 10 August, 2014 and based on Romans 9:1-18

A recent study found that an overwhelming majority of the stories that went viral in 2013-14 weren't true. Or at least weren't wholly true. They were based on misconceptions - ideas that happen when a concept is too big fit neatly into our worldview. Misconceptions are all around us, and they're easy to come by. But that's why Paul, as he digs into the Sovereignty of God, takes the time to clear up three misconceptions that arise when we think about God. Preached at Trinity, Grenfell on 3 August, 2014. Based on Romans 8:18-39

The book of Romans is Paul's masterpiece. Written near the end of his life, it's the summation of the Christian faith. But as you read it more closely you can see two parts emerge: the first asks, "What is the Good News?" and the second asks "What does this mean for me?". But in between these two parts is an interlude - where Paul begins to construct the bridge to go from the former to the latter. That bridge is the Sovereignty of God. Join us over four weeks, as we break down this linchpin of faith. Based on Romans 8:1-17 and was preached at Trinity, Grenfell on 27 July, 2014
