Posted by Trinity Presbyterian Church on October 13, 2013 at 4:05 PM

The Doxology that gets tacked onto the Lord's Prayer isn't Scripture, but it is ancient. Praying "Thine be..." is a powerful declaration about how we believe the world ought to be, and what we plan on doing about it.

0 Comments Prayer By Numbers (Part 2) - Give Us ...
Posted by Trinity Presbyterian Church on October 8, 2013 at 1:29 PM

We tend to think about Prayer as something that I bring to God, but in this second part of our look at the Lord's Prayer, we see that's not really the case at all. In fact, the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples is, overwhelmingly, a community prayer. So, what does it mean to pray "Give US OUR daily bread"; "Forgive US OUR debts as WE forgive OUR debtors"; and "Lead US not into temptation, but deliver US from Evil"?

0 Comments Prayer By Numbers (Part 1) - Our Father
Posted by Trinity Presbyterian Church on October 1, 2013 at 4:38 PM

Calling it the Lord's Prayer is like calling the Timbit Tim Horton's legacy. The prayer that Jesus taught his disciples isn't about a ritual recitation: it's about a careful and thoughtful examination of how we approach God. In the first part of three three-week mini series', we look at the opening section of the "Our Father" and see the balance and the challenge in praying the way Jesus taught us. Based on Matthew 6:9, this message was preached at Trinity, Grenfell on 29 September, 2013

0 Comments A Character of Discipleship (Part 4) - Characteristic Mission
Posted by Trinity Presbyterian Church on September 18, 2013 at 12:57 PM

Based on Acts 8:24-40. Fresh off his latest failure with Simon the Magician, Philip is settling into a life of anonymity in Samaria. He's never going to be a Peter or a Stephen. But the irony of discipleship is that it's in that moment that God shows up. And without warning, without explanation, the Spirit calls Philip into mission. It's when we let God work, that we find ourselves where God can best use us.

By the time the book of Acts rolls around, Philip is coming into his own along the way of discipleship. But he's not there yet. Like wearing a suit that's a little too big for him, Philip shows us that despite our best intentions, Discipleship is always going to be a process.

Posted by Trinity Presbyterian Church on September 3, 2013 at 2:49 PM

"Just Believe" has been a slogan of the Church for the last century. But what if what we mean when we say believe isn't what Jesus is calling us to? What if doubt can lead us into a deeper relationship with Christ?  And what if what we mean when we talk about faith isn't what Jesus wants for us at all? Join us as we explore Philip's remarkable doubt and faith

Posted by Trinity Presbyterian Church on August 23, 2013 at 7:11 PM

When Philip encountered Jesus, his response was different than Andrew and Peter's. He didn't drop everything and follow Jesus; he ran and found Nathaniel, shouting "Come and See!"
